Jeshima Lewis
Jeshima Lewis lives in Louisville, Kentucky with their two cats, Giovanni and Sneakers. An educator and percussionist of more than 20 years, they are currently the Music Specialist at Bloom Elementary School. In addition to these responsibilities, Jeshima is the CEO and Percussion Instructor at DrumSmart LLC where they maintains an active private percussion studio in which their students have achieved many honors. A lifelong learner, Jeshima is a pursuing a PhD in Music Education from the University of Kentucky. Their research interests include mindful drumming and project-based learning in music. In addition to this, they are a Remo Health Rhythms facilitator who offers ways to connect their passion of mindful hearts, bodies, and spirits through drumming. When they are not drumming, you can find K. Michelle hanging from trees in a hammock like their favorite animal the sloth, writing books, or wandering through the forest. Most recently, Ms. Lewis has turned their passion for providing children in children’s homes with a music education by turning their SUV into a mobile music classroom that will travel all 50 states. K. Michelle has presented workshops at local, state and national levels and is a published author. Their new eBook, Drum O’ Clock: A Digital Community Drum Circle Experience published was released in 2020 by f-flat books. Recently, Ms. Lewis was awarded the Spotlight Award for Excellence in Teaching (2018) from The American Center for Elemental Music and Movement and the Innovative Teaching Award/Grant from Give A Note Foundation (2019) for Project Based Learning in Music.
